Jakarta - Indonesia has been confirmed not to send representatives to attend the Nobel Peace Prize handover to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo in Oslo, Norway. This policy is regrettable number of parties including the National Mandate Party (PAN).

DPP Chairman PAN Bara Hasibuan opinion, Indonesia should attend such events. As the third largest democracy in the world, attended the handover Nobel Peace Prize will demonstrate recognition of the democracy movement in China and the world.

"The actions of Indonesia that does not send its representatives in the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony was extremely regrettable and unacceptable," said Bara Hasibuan in release told AFP on Friday (12/10/2010).

Bara said, so far, Indonesia has done a great deal of progress in the democratization process. Praise from the international world was flooding the Indonesian government. In fact, Indonesia is known as a role model.

"The question then, why Indonesia willing to enter into a group with countries which are still led by the power of a dictator who had boycotted the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony that?" asked Bara.

Ironically again, upon delivery of the Nobel Peace held, Indonesia was having a Bali Democracy Forum, an event which aims to share experiences about the progress of democratization is also strategic to the advancement of democracy in the world.

"If Indonesia took the initiative to organize such activities should Indonesia indicated its commitment to democracy, not only at the level of rhetoric, but also to dare to be defending the principles of democracy when needed," he said.

About the possibility of 'sanctions' of China, said Bara, the concern is not unfounded. However, China still needs Indonesia as an investment destination and source of energy to support their economic development.

The attitude of Indonesia, would be a bad precedent because Indonesia is the largest country in Southeast Asia. "Indonesia should be more willing to take a stand, especially in the face of China as an Asian power that wanted to expand its influence, both in geopolitics and economies in Southeast Asia," said Bara Hasibuan.

Earlier, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Michael Tene said the absence Estonian Ambassador in Norway Andayani the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony for China's human rights activist, Liu Xiaobo, not because of Chinese pressure. According to Michael, when the event took place, the ambassador of Norway was called home to follow the Bali Democracy Forum which was held on 9-10 December 2010. Routine event will be attended by President Yudhoyono and several heads of state and ministers from friendly countries.
